About
From my Linked In acct, The screen caprure may reveal my uniquely
skill set built up from my unique aggressive working syle
Ikeep thinking how dare any body dare to claim an embedded profs without any kind of acrtual HW experience
I abolutely never believe such claim per my own experience
Knowkegge without practice is worth less than a book
In one case I
came to rescue a embedded Linux contract at BoulderColoradoSymmetricom
He was fighting with intermittent behavior in months
his
expertise was far a lot better than mine in embeđed Linx When due date was
up for a demo to USA Army with PTP product I had a biz trip there
within less than 10 min after my arrival I fixed it based on my HW
experience
read/write setup hold time
Another case with my boss PhD Scientist as a lead of team to update PTP to v2
He had dozen book on PID control all over his desk
But he failed to get job done in saying to the team that he found his simulation was exploded so it cannot be done
I had to jumped in to rescue and Symetricom could claim a pioneer in
this new technology PTP and I was laid offSymmetricom and now Micro
Chip is just kind of evils on earth
I strongly believe per my faith in Law of Casuality Some day in near
future they have to get a terrible consequence for all their evil
actions
My conclusion is nothing can be done without real hand-on experience in the area
In my 1st case above was based on my 10-yr in HW, FPGA in particular
In the 2nd case above is based on my real 5-yr Control exprience in Control Lab at UTS
I dare to challenge whoever claim sucessful in their task without real experience inthe area
New product done is only half of sccess the other half is the cost
It's unlikely no competetition on the new product
It's likely no customer for a product at high price
Market is very dynamic and competitive
No place for a late new product
My working attitude is divide and conquer
Tomorrow is too late
Any problem must be verified first before atempting to find the solution
Any modern device is compsed of HW and SW, known as embedded
SW is flexible but its response is not fast as HW even with realtime embedded SW or even with premptive support
The fastest SW response is interrupt but it come with latency to slow down response
In my jobs in timing industry all response under milisecond must be implemented in FPGA
So solution to any problem could be SW or HW solution
I 'm proud to work across boundary and very helpful to my SW
partners in making their job more productive and enjoyable in making a
dump HW smart enough
When a problem occur a finger point is likely occur HW/SW problem
It'd be neither HW nor SW
It'd be both as HW/SW is not hapy with each other
I'm proud to clain and exceptional R&D developer where I made my HW for SW
and also developed embeded SW for HW
In embedded Linux development driver must be required to communicate with CPU
FPGA is a dedicated CPU so I have to develop its Linux driver
just bare enough to work for my FPGA with some kind of memory map
for CPU
At Symmetricom wore both hat HW / SW
How about my control back ground to make any significant difference in my job
All modern equipment are digital
So digital communication must be required as message exchange via
digital clock so they hey have to work together in a system
To be properly operational system the clock must be stable and its phase and
frequency must be within some tolerance This is done via Oscilattor
Discipline or Oscilator Control
All Wireless towers require this kind of thing to be operational
I got 5 years working in control lab at UTSand it's invaluable experience to get thing done sucessfully in Osc Control
It is stealing to get paid from any company profit without any real original
contribution to company profit. An original is by real doing not by just
talking like me ex boss at Syymetricom He just contributed by nice
words to hide his low performance and claimed others'acievements as his
own ones. He is the worst theft I've ever been aware of
My working attitude is high commitment, self starting, aggressive workaholic, dedicated and result-oriented at reasonable cost
An accomplishment at high cost is a failure
Aggressive working add kinetic energy to break thru obstacle
Practice without theory is hopeless ( no guide)
Theory without practice is useless ( a book is more value )
I'm a unique R&D Eng with strong back ground in Math for logical
thinking and in both HW/SW and in Control in partcular
OscilattorDiscipline, key sucess in all modern digital equipment,
especially for wireless tower
A lot Tek guy claimed they did architect product in their task
I really doubt
The followings are keys in To making efective a product arch
- Both hands on HW/SW and logical thinking
- HW should include FPGA
- embedded SW should validate all write
My boss a PhD chief Scientist claimed an Ex Physic Professor at a Univ
Hewas resposible to solve Osc Discipline(Osc Contol) for PTP v2 master Clk update
There were a dozen Control book on his desk but he could not do it and
misled that he found his PTP simulation expoded so the task was
impossible and he gave up
I jumped in and brought it to happy ending
I have not only with advanced control theory in my PhD thesis now published in a book by PhD supervisor Hung Tan Nguyen tile
Pubished SMCBook
Advances in Discrete-Time
Sliding Mode Control: Theory
and Applications
My PhD tile
Sliding-Mode Control:
Advanced Design Techniques
PhD_Thesis
He offered the topic and I independently carried out all the remaining deails all the way to the end
But
also with classical control, the key of mysuccess in Osc Control for
PTP Clock above per my tutoring 5 yrs in Control Lab for Sr student EE
at UTS
I made key contritue to any biz I 've been from VN to AUStralia and also in USA
in USA
1. startup NextLevel Comm in Rohnert Park CA
5 new product in 3 yrs seen as the bightest Eng from a Sr Eng there
these product has uique arch appreciated by all SW Eng and they
asked their HW partner to follow my arch to ease their jobs
2. Symetricom
A
key contribute to PTP Master Clck which Symm proud of as pioneer
in new tek PTP Symm Eng moved to other biz and duplicated there
3. Venture Design
as R&D contractor
sucessfully implemented true USB high speed 12 Mbps vs serial USB at 112Kbps
But the narrow mind mangr brought down the biz per his silly biz attitude in waiting to release perfect product
I argued against his way
in saying Never ever looking for perfecct product as it was
perfect at only moment of start but at the end it obsolete and not
perfect due to dynamic market after too long to market
In particular it's perfect in his view but not from customer's
as a perfect product requires feedbck customer after release
He nerver been in startup biz so he has a silly way of doing biz
High commitment to both responsible product and men in under my
management when I was a manager of 2 engineers and 50 skilled worker in
a musical audio instrument firm named Tien Dat in Saigon Vietnam
between 1986 til 1988
I found the firm just took out a very tiny fraction of profit to pay my
men
I was struggling to double pay for my men
They negotiated to triple my pay but not double their pays I rejected
the offer right away
Eventually all my men had double pay
One of those 2 engineer now also on LinkedIn
She was the witness of that unusual event
I doubt if such event ever occured any where else
I had no pay raise at all in 12 years with Symmetricom.
Even I really had to solve all challenging problems for my boss's a PhD Chief Scientistduties to maintain profit for Symm
I also solved problem and mentoredd 2 Sr HW Eng
Without such interventions my misleading boss and theese 2 Sr HW Enginerers would have been able kept their jobs
Without any kind of supervision solely based on my solid back ground in
multiple areas in HW/SW/FPGA/TCPIP Ethernet Frame I proudly and frankly
to claim all my new projects at work were self motivated and
independently created product madearchitect for SW team enjoy working on my
HW
My HW architect allows building HW for SW and vice versa
Owing my architect HW has reliable SW manager to count on as SW never
overrun HW and always absolutely honor HW setup-hold time
Consequence shorter SW development time so the least time to market and
better biz revenue
A modern product is composed of some pieces [HW SW ] and FPGA
I really had real experience hands on all those areas
Only hands on experience make our kowlegge active and productive
Otherwise it's just passsive like a book but a lot less details than
book content
I did have such experience in those areas Otherwise it's a real shame
for me with the claim on my product architect above
All my HW were fully under SW control. HW debug using fingertip not
Oscilloscope;Extra Verilog in FPGA excludes Logic Analyzer in HW
debugging
FPGA is a dedicated processor
So I provided its memory map and bare-metal/Linux driver to my SW peer
along with HW document with block diagram as a user guide of my HW
